Fighting the trauma of social isolation in schools by enabling people to experience it themselves.

Beyond Differences is working so no child ever again has to make a phone call like Lili did.

We recreated her call.

Beyond Differences is a national nonprofit at the forefront of a nuanced fight: ending social isolation in middle schools. The organization was started in memory of Lili Rachel Smith, born with a syndrome that cause craniofacial abnormalities, causing her to not be included in the daily social lives of her peers on and off campus.

Her mother often recalls getting heartwrenching phone calls from her daughter from the bathroom stall, no one to sit with, just waiting out the clock at lunch.

So for their 2019 nonprofit gala, we recreated a story like Lili’s in VR, to help donors experience what social isolation really looks and feels like. Done with no budget and volunteer acting, facilities, and production (big shout to Impact Creative), the 3-minute film film helped the fundraiser generate over $250,000, helping further Lili’s legacy and make sure no call like hers has to happen again.
